How to See the Unheard (April 2021), is an artist book made during a research residency at Decolonising Arts Institute (UAL). Printed by Duplikat Press in London with funding from Decolonising Arts Institute. The book is partly printed in two colour risograph, in a limited edition of 100.
The images are constructed through postproduction from video-grabs of three films researched during this residency: Death Valley Days (1984), by Gorilla Tapes; Handsworth Songs (1986), by Black Audio Film Collective; and I’m British But… (1989), by Gurinder Chadha. The book also includes conversational exchanges with June Givanni, Mitra Tabrizian and Hammad Nasar, exploring concepts of decolonisation, homeland, alternative archives, and artistic practices that reflect on similar subjects.
